Can I install a power point or downlight myself in WA?

No. In Western Australia, only a licensed electrical worker can install or alter fixed wiring, power points, lights and hardwired fans. DIY electrical work is illegal and can void your insurance, so it needs a licensed electrician who certifies the job.

Should I replace my halogen downlights with LED?

Almost always yes. Halogen downlights run very hot, are a known ceiling-fire risk and force gaps in your insulation. IC-rated LED downlights run cool, sit safely under insulation and use around 85 percent less energy, so they pay for themselves over time.

How high does a ceiling fan need to be?

The blades must sit at least 2.1 metres above the floor for safety, and the fan needs to be fixed to something solid so it runs steady. We check both before we install, especially on lower or raked ceilings.
